closing your shell without gaps - final section

Proper Closing Technique...

This is the final step in your remote repair however due to customer demand, we are including this at the beginning.  For the entire conversion process please watch the videos below first.  Once done, return to these videos to complete your installation (and close your shell without gaps).

The video above demonstrates the proper technique to close your shell without gaps.

  • Shell should be closed at 45 degrees then slid upwards (as shown in video)
  • If shell is closed with gaps, reattempt closing the shell until it is successfully closed with no gap

If after numerous attempts you are unable to successfully close the shell without gaps, please refer to the next video.

Closing your shell without gaps - Last Resort...

If you are still unable to close your shell without a gap (using the technique demonstrated in the prior video), you may wrap the shell (with key, electronics, and chip (if applicable) inside) and carefully tap it down with a mallet, or rubber hammer.

The section at the end of this page might also be helpful when attempting to close your shell if you do not have a mallet/hammer, or do not wish to use one.  It also includes useful tips in the event that your screw does not line up.

Honda Bladeless Shell Installation

Remote with SEPARATE chip and electronics

Remotes with separate chip and transponders include the following FCC ID's (which can be found on the back part of your remote): OUCG8D-380H-A, CWTWB1U545, and MLBHLIK-1T.

If your remote has any of the above FCC ID's,  watch this video FIRST for the chip removal procedure.  Once your chip is removed it MUST be installed in your new shell (and can be affixed using the 3M double sided 'glue dot' provided with your new shell kit).  After installing your chip in the new shell,  refer to next video for a detailed key installation procedure.

If your chip is INTEGRAED in your electronics module (and your remote has one of the following FCC ID's:  KR55WK49308, N5F-A05TAA or NSF-S0084A  ) no chip removal is required and you may refer to next video for detailed key installation.

Remote with INTEGRATED chip and electronics

No removal of transponder is chip required if your remote has one of the following FCC ID's (which can be found on the pack part of your remote):  KR55WK49308, N5F-A05TAA, or NSF-S0084.

Once your electronics, integrated chip, and key is installed in new shell and conversion is completed, refer to video below for proper closing procedure (if you are unable to close the shell without gaps).

Tips:

  • When installing key into plastic holder, if hole does not line up, remove key, turn it around then reinsert.  Also ensure that the key is pushed all the way in into the plastic chip holder
  • Ensure that the side facing outwards is aligned. The key may only be aligned with the hole in the plastic key holder on one side. If it is on the outward facing side then your key will close properly. If the hole is not aligned, remove it and reinsert after turning around. Once the side facing outwards is aligned, you may proceed with the conversion (and the hole on the back part will align with the key on the plastic holder and the key blade) to allow for insertion of the screw

Closing your shell without Gaps - Video II

Shell Closure Procedure - without gaps

  • Shell should be closed at 45 degrees then slid upwards (as shown in video)
  • If shell is closed with gaps, reattempt closing the shell until it is successfully closed with no gap

IF THE SHELL GAPS WHEN SCREWING IN THE FASTENING SCREW, please see the next section for tips on how to fix this problem

Fixing gaps that appear after installing the screw

If you have a gap when installing the fastening screw, see the below for how to fix this.

If the front and back of your shell separates when installing the fastening screw (as shown in the photo), there are a number of ways that this can be fixed.

  1. Reversing the key blade -  Some key blades have a wider hole on one side.   In this case, open the shell and reverse the blade and reinstall it in the plastic sleeve (then reclose the shell).   In most cases this will fix your issue and the shell will close with no gaps.
  2. Threading the screw hole - If reversing the blade does not fix your issue and there is still a gap, (in very rare circumstances) the hole may need to be enlarged.   Use the screw from your old remote to thread the screw hole, then, once the hole is threaded/enlarged reclose the shell and screw in the new screw that came with your shell.   This should fix your issue and the shell should close with absolutely ZERO gaps.

If you are still unable to successfully close the shell, please feel free to contact us (using the message icon at the bottom of any page) and we will be happy to further assist.
