NOTE: The flip-key internals shown in the above photo/s may be a different version than the flip key you receive. However, the same key blank removal procedure (via removing punch pin) may be used.
Some locksmiths will request that you remove the key from the flip mechanism to make it easier for them to cut the key. DO NOT REMOVE the screw from the flip mechanism to take out the key (as indicated with the red X). Once disassembled, it is very difficult to put back together. A locksmith should be able to cut the key while inside the flip mechanism. If your locksmith is unable to do so, you may remove the key by punching out the holding pin (and punching it back in once the key is cut). The following photo shows the location of the holding pin.
If your locksmith is not able to cut the key without removing it from the flip mechanism, you may punch out the holding pin to remove the key (and hammer it back in once the key is cut). To access the holding pin, rotate the flip-key 45 degrees.
Again, DO NOT remove the screw from the flip mechanism. If removed, it is very difficult to reassemble the flip mechanism.
Note: If you remote has a separate transponder chip, this must also be moved into the new (flip key) shell.
In some vehicles, the transponder chpi will be to far to be detected by the ignition cylinder (and your vehicle will not start). In this case, you will need to remove your transponder chip and install it in the chip slot. The phot above illustrates how to remove the chip and where to install it.
If the flip mechanism was inadvertently opened (the screw was removed), this video demonstrates the procedure on how to reset/rewind the flip mechanism.
The remote shown in this video is different but the reset/rewind procedure is identical.
